Recycling old electrical and electronic devices

Electrical items should never be thrown away with your household waste. Unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest growing type of waste, and much of it could be repaired or recycled. If electrical equipment ends up in landfill, hazardous substances leak out, causing soil and water contamination that can harm wildlife and human health. Look out for the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on electrical products. This symbol means the item should not be disposed of with general household waste and should be collected separately for reuse or recycling.

If you have an old electrical or electronic item that you no longer need, you can recycle it for free at your local recycling centre. To find your nearest centre, visit the Recycle More website and type in your postcode.

In the UK, distributors and retailers of electrical equipment must provide a way for customers buying new equipment to recycle their old items free of charge. As a responsible retailer, we do this by financially supporting the national network of recycling centres established by local authorities and are members of the national Distributor Take-back scheme.
